Good morning, Poppers! Your gurl was excited to wake up to the bright sunshine, but OMIGAWD, why is it so cold?!? I'm happy to say that I'm still typing this while my happy, hairy pussy and I are tucked into my bed. Say hi to Gracie.

As I mentioned last week, the IPBL leave tonight for the third leg of their world tour...Zoolegger's in Lafayette, IN (which was the destination for the first and second legs as well; I think we need more legs). Kokomo, Ft. Wayne, Muncie, Bloomington, Terre Haute...we're waiting for invites!!

Some of your IPBL: Cadillac Barbie, Sequoia Pentecost, Summer Clearance, Rachel Yoder, Regina Bitch and yours truly will be joining some of the gals from Zoolegger's to assemble a fantastic cast for one night only (until the next time we're up there). Showtime isn't until midnight so you'll have plenty of time to get your nap on OR cheer and scream your little hearts out for PURDUE...GO BOILERS!! I hope to see you tonight!

Tomorrow and Sunday nights I'm happy to say I will be performing at Zonie's Closet. I hyperextended my knew (again) a few weeks ago so I don't think I've actually been in the show at Zonie's since back in February. I'll have the pleasure of sharing the stage with the Closet Kittens and Miss Ginger Ale who was recently named first runner-up at Miss All American Goddess at Large. Congrats, gurl! Showtimes both Saturday and Sunday nights is 10:ish DST.

I have a ton of stuff to do before heading to Lafayette, so I'm going to post some pics from IPBL Shimmering Shamrocks Show 2010 for your enjoyment. Thanks to you, we were able to raise $1300 for IYG. Special thanks to Michael, Vivian and the staff and crew at Talbott Street for your continued support of the community.

Hola, Poppers!

Yes, it's been almost a year since I last posted a blog...would you believe I've been busy? Perhaps busy-ness is no excuse, but I'm running with it.

It's no secret what I've been doing for the past few months and I have to say that I've felt more love and support from this community than I ever imagined I would. It's been like what I remember church being like as a kid...the awe, the wonder, the corporate worship, the pot-luck dinners, the women in fabulous hats and gorgeous shoes and crisp Sunday suits and gloves ~ all the stuff a budding homo would notice.

I've been involved in multiple fundraisers and I'm thankful to everyone who has allowed me to be a part of what I consider to be a ministry to our community.

Before I mention a few upcoming events, I'd like to share just one success story of the many I've seen recently. Friday night a fundraiser took place at Zonie's Closet called Love THY Neighbor. Reserved tables were sponsored by Norma Edwards of FC Tucker; clients and employees/volunteers of the Damien Center; members of TGIF; Great Lakes Productions; Cosmos; Erin Rake of IU School of Dentistry; and Amanda Harris of GayIndy.Com (PLEASE forgive me if I've left you off this list and you were a sponsor) and a $10 cover was requested at the door.

Love THY Neighbor was a fundraiser organized by Jazmyn Taylor for the Damien Center's Coby Palmer Food Pantry and in roughly two hours, almost $2000 was raised. Jillian James, Holly Luyah, Connie Ross, Alana Steele, Angela Stone and Jazmyn provided top-notch entertainment and I, ladies and gentlemen, had the pleasure of emceeing and watching these gals work and watching the funds roll in.

What I mentioned to the audience is that Love THY Neighbor allowed people to see a variety of GLBT organizations all in the same room united in raising funds for the people of their community and it was truly an honor and privilege to be a part of the evening. Thanks again to all the sponsors; Lori and Denice for providing the venue; Jillian, Holly, Connie, Alana, Angela and Jazmyn for giving your time, talents, tushes and ta-tas and special thanks to Jazmyn Taylor for organizing the event. You did a good thing.

Coming up next, Poppers...the Indy Pride Bag Ladies present...the annual Shimmering Shamrocks Show!! This Wednesday March 17 at Talbott Street come see your Indy Pride Bag Ladies laying it all out there to entertain you on the drunkest holiday the United States has to offer. Doors open at 7:00 and the show will start at 8:00. $5 cover and all tips collected by the performers will go to Indiana Youth Group.

On Friday March 26, some of the IPBL will be continuing the Bag Ladies World Tour with our second trip to Zoolegger's in Lafayette!! We were there last November and had a ball with the folks in Lafayette. I believe the show will start at midnight local time. Feel like a road trip? Follow us on up to Lafayette...book a room and stay the night!

And on Sunday April 18, Sequoia Pentecost and Rachel Yoder will host the 3rd Annual Country & Gospel Brunch at Talbott Street. More details to follow but I believe church starts at noon.

Good morning, Poppers!

From what I can see, it looks like it might be a gorgeous day, but I haven't even left the bed so I could be completely wrong.

I may have said this before, but I want to reiterate that I have nothing but respect for all the "ladies" out there who paint, powder and pad themselves up, tape and tuck their twig and danglies, slither into 4-way stretch or tape themselves into barely there sequins and satin, then strap on death-defying, on the brink of collapse, sky-high stilettos...all for OUR entertainment.

I had the pleasure of performing with some very talented individuals this weekend and gurls...I applaud you. Saturday night's benefit for Holly Luyah was a treat and I truly enjoyed being involved. I had my first major malfunction on Saturday...my hair fell off and an accessory exploded, but being the consummate entertainer in training, I Sallied forth. I'm just so proud of our gurl Holly and thank her for asking me to be a part of her show. Beat those bitches down in Dallas, honey!

I'm happy to report that my gurl Aurora Diamonds took the crown at the Miss Hoosier 250 Pageant Sunday night at Talbott Street. You'll get to see Aurora waving flags at the Hoosier 250 this Sunday, but only if you make it to the race. I went for the first time last year and had an absolute ball. The race is actually being held on Mass Ave and the street between College and Park will be closed off for the event. Put on your sunscreen (or bring your bumblechute) and get ready to tailgate. This is truly the greatest spectacle in racing. And...Metro provides a free cookout after the race! Registration begins at 12:00 and the flag drops at 1:00.

Speaking of Metro, just a reminder that they are now having drag shows on Sunday night. Alana Steele, Holly Luyah, Adessah Reed and I made up the cast this past Sunday. There was a receptive audience there Sunday night and we appreciate you coming out. The regular bevy of beautiful babes will be Alana, Holly and Erica King with special guests joining the tantalizing, talented trio. Show time is at 9:00 Sunday nights.

There are some things I REALLLY want to get off my chest, but I'll not be the antigonist. Some of you know that this wasn't the best of weekends for me and I appreciate your support and well-wishes. One thing I will say, however is that there is an appropriate time and place for everything...yes, even a time for making a complete and utter ass of yourself.

I hope you're enjoying the sunshine on this gorgeous Saturday!

I don't have much time, but I wanted to make sure you're remembering a couple of things happening in Indy this weekend.

First of all, tonight at Cosmos, "Paving the Road to Dallas," a benefit for Holly Luyah. I'm soo excited that Indiana has Holly representing us at Miss Gay USofA! The show starts at 10:00 and features Alana Steele, Britney Taylor, Jazmyn Taylor, yours truly and Holly Luyah. Please come out and support our Holly as she raises money to complete in Dallas.

If you're looking for pageant action this weekend, please be sure to head over to Talbott Street Sunday at 7:00 p.m. for Miss Hoosier 250. I'm not sure who the other contestants are, but I know that my girl, the multi-faceted Aurora Diamonds is competing this year.

Please support Talbott Street and your favorite contestant.

Last but certainly not least, drag is back at Metro!! This Sunday, Metro on Mass Ave is bringing in Alana Steele, Holly Luyah, Erica King and yours truly to kick off a new Sunday night show. From what I'm told, Alana, Holly and Erica will be on cast and they will welcome in a guest performer on Sundays. I'm too too excited to be included in this new venture and hope it will be successful for Metro and the performers.

Good morning, Poppers!!

I know I've been out of touch for several weeks, but I've truly just been worn out.

The busy season has set in and a touch of crazy intensity is in the air. Let's play a little bit of catch up, shall we?

Carl's benefit, as you know went off without a hitch. His surgery took place on 4/21 and went well. His brother was sent home by the following Friday and Carl was discharged on Sunday. Although Carl was readmitted yesterday because of some side effects of the meds he's on, they're releasing him again today...personally, I think he developed a taste for sounding while he was in the hospital and wanted to be re-cathed. He claims that's not the case. I guess I'll believe him. Love you, Carl.

On the stiletto heels of Carl's benefit, the Bag Ladies went right into The 2nd annual Country/Gospel Brunch. What a hoot and a holler! I attended last year, but actually performed in this year's show. I had an absolute ball and even though final numbers aren't in yet, I believe we raised $3000+? I'll update that once it's confirmed.

On the same day as the Gospel Brunch, we turned right back out to Talbott Street to support our own Aurora Diamond as she participated in and stomped it out to win TNT (Talbott's Night of Talent or Talent Night at Talbott...I've heard it called several things). Good job, gal! She'll now be a special guest on I believe Sunday May 17. Good job, baby!

Please remember that this Thursday, April 30, 2009 is Indy’s 15th Annual Dining Out for Life! Area restaurants will participate in the largest restaurant event in the Indianapolis area, benefiting the Damien Center and hundreds of people living with HIV & AIDS throughout our region. Making a difference is as easy as going out to eat! Participating Restaurants will donate 25-50% of your food bill on April 30th to pay for local services in the Fight Against AIDS.

Their generosity coupled with your generous donation will make a very real difference in the lives of thousands of men, women, and children throughout the region living with HIV and AIDS. This year's Premier participating restaurants are: Blu Martini, Cafe Patachou, Adobo Grill, Palomino, Forty Five Degrees, Petite Chou, and Arni's Restaurant! These fine restaurants are contributing 50% of sales this year!

Moving on, this Friday and Saturday May 1 and 2, are Grand Finals for Metro Idol 2009. All the way from Louisville, KY The Mistress of Mayhem, Hurricane Summers will be Mistress of Ceremonies for the weekend. Although things have yet to be confirmed, I'm told that Miss Gay Indianapolis, Erica King, Fairrah Flame and Cherilynn Douchey will be performing on Friday night and Summer Clearance and yours truly will be performing on Saturday. Because of all of you, $1610 was raised for Carl DeLong and his family. Carl and his family were truly moved by the amount of support and love shown to them and I appreciate your partcipation in this event more than I can say.

Greetings, poppers!

Your gal Halle is still alive and still as busy as ever! After spending two weeks in Schaumburg, IL (that's nw of Chicago for the geographically challenged) for work, I'm back at my new home in Greenwood.

April is quickly filling up and I wanted to take a moment to tell you about a few things coming up. First up is 4/5/09. You've heard me talk of my original drag mama, Carma Blake. Well, Carma's OTHER side, Carl DeLong is having a kidney transplant on 4/14/09. Carl is HIV+ and this will be the first kidney transplant performed on a HIV+ patient. This is trailblazing in the state and will help with future cases. Please come out and support the cause and enjoy performances by Asia Labouche, Alana Steele, Erica King, Ginger Ale, Cadillac Barbie, Naomi Divine, Summer Clearance, Adessah Reed, Sue Diamonds, Regina Bitch and yours truly.

There is a $5 cover, doors open at 6:00 and the show starts at 7:00. All cover charges and performer tips will go to Carl and his family. I'd love to see you there and would consider it a personal favor if you'd come.

The next lil thing I wanna tell my babies about is The Indy Pride Bag Ladies Gospel Brunch. If you made it to last year's, you'll remember it was a good ol' fashioned toe-tappin', foot-stompin', hand-clappin', fan-wavin', nose-blowing, come-to-Jesus! Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition! It's held at Talbott Street, catered by Hoaglin's Fine Catering and hosted by Sequoia Pentecost.

Kiddies, if you've ever been to a revival and felt the spirit, you need to make it to this event. Come out and praise and worship with your gay & lesbian brethren and sistren. Just remember, when it comes to hair..."the higher the hair, the closer to God, praise Jesus." Bring yourselves on down to a family friendly atmosphere with bacon and lashes for days.

Good morning, Poppers! FitnessNerd, Summer Clearance Sequoia Pentecost and your gurl Halle have invaded Chicago!! Welcome to Obama Country!! This is what I woke up to as I pulled back the gossamer drapes of our suite:

Probably pretty much what you woke up to, huh? Oh, well. I didn't expect it to be a perfect weekend, but it's already started off as a fun one!!

Just to back up for a minute, I just want to tell you about L O L held at Talbott Street this past Thursday. O M G, kids, what a riot! The Rubi Girls were phenom and Tara Jole (aka Mini-Britney) was just divine! If you have the opportunity to see either of these acts, take it!! Here are a few of my favorite shots from the evening:

One more thing I wanna tell you kids about is actually happening in Indiana. This weekend, you'll experience a little bit of Halle's home state as Mardi Gras makes its way to Muncie...presenting...Muncie Gras!! You'll get a little bit of the Big Easy today and one of the performers is one of my favorite gals, Holly Luyah! Make yourway up to Muncie Gras...if you see Holly, tell her I axed he she durrin'!

Good afternoon, Poppers!

I hope everyone survived the weekend and you're enjoying a good week so far. As I've probably mentioned, your gurl is on vacation! I haven't done anything too terribly exciting, but I've enjoyed the shit out of a whole lotta nothing!

Friday and Saturday nights, I just laid around battling Montezuma's revenge. I'm not sure what I did to that fucker, but he was pissed off at me! It was soo not cute, but I emerged 3 lbs lighter so I'm not all that mad.

Sunday afternoon I met several friends at Talbott Street for the President's Day Brunch. I really wasn't sure what to expect as I'd not seen much in the way of advertising, but it turned out to be a pleasant afternoon.

The food provided by Hoaglin's Fine Catering was divine and the drinks were lovely. Too lovely. I had a few. Throw in performances by Asia LaBouche, Alana Steel, Vicky St. James and special guests Stacia Renee Onassis and Ashley Cruz and it made for a perfectly drunk afternoon. After we closed Talbott for the afternoon, a rather large group of Pride, Pride Board Members and Bag Ladies headed over to Metro where we continued to imbibe and just enjoy each other's company until I had to leave for a dinner date.

I did meet up with everyone else back at Talbott Street around 10:15 where we continued to drink and tip the gals. I gotta give major snaps to all the performers. Asia, Vicky, Alana, Stacia and Ashley had worked all weekend and some of them even worked (performed) at the fundraiser for Planned Parenthood this past Thursday. Ladies, thanks so much for keeping it going. I know y'all was tired, but you still put on several great shows. Love and hugs to all of you.

Kids, don't forget this Thursday, the Laugh Out Loud fundraiser at Talbott Street. Tickets are still available from Pride Board Members. They're $15 pre-sell and $20 at the door. Should be a great evening!

"I need you...by me...beside me, to guide me. To hold me...to scold me cuz when I'm bad I'm so so baaaaad." True story, Poppers!

Buenos dios, babies! It's Sunday, February 15 and your girl Halle is on VACATION!!! I know, I know what you're thinking. Sweatshop employees don't typically get vacations. But, my boss, Kathie Lee is the exception. I simply reminded her that little Cody Pino has yet to meet the press and she was oh, too happy to give me a full week off! She's so sweet like that!

So before I tell you about what's coming up, let me tell you about what's already happened. Just two events to mention: A) two of my favorite lesbians, Heidi and Ruth became engaged in what I'm told was a truly moving, emotional event at Zoni's closet. I had a moving, emotional event of my own, but that was just food poisoning. I haven't gotten all the details, but from what I understand at midnight on Friday, Ruth popped the question in front of friends and family and drag queens and trannies and some of the local rifraff on East Washington Street. I tell you what. I've known Heidi for about 7 years and while I've had a peripheral acquaintance with Ruth for about 4 years, I've really had the opportunity to grow closer to her this past year. I adore both of these gals and wish them nothing but the best in whatever's to happen next. Smooches, girls!! Let me know if you need someone to perform at your nuptials. Or a seamstress. Or catering staff. I know 'em all.

B) I'm not one to tell tales, but Erica King is now 45! Gurl, I'm right behind you. From what I've been told Ms. King, your current reigning Miss Gay Indianapolis was celebrating her birthday all dolled up and flashing those (new and divine) pearly whites! You get it gurl! Happy Belated Birthday. I wish you many many more.

That brings us to today: if you haven't heard yet, there is a President's Day Brunch being held at and sponsored by Talbott Street. Catered by Hoaglin's Fine Catering, the brunch will be from noon to 4:00 p.m. Reservations were suggested, but this late in the game, you can prolly just show up and be fine. Admission is $20 and screwdrivers and bloody Marys will be available for $2.50 (I'm going to assume well, but who knows...there might be a vodka special). Regardless, cheap drinks. I believe, but can't confirm that the Ladies of Legends will be performing and that some of the Bag Ladies will be in attendance? I've been out of the loop for a minute so I've just been showing up and going with whatever happens. So again, brunch, boobies, booze...noon to 4:00 Talbott Street.

I need to go down and run my laundry through the ringer right quick but before I do, I need to send out love, positive energy and big kisses to my gurl Naomi Divine. She was admitted to St. Vincent's on Friday because of some sugar, stones, stress and shut-down. Seriously kids, possible diabetes, kidney stones, hypertenstion and partial renal failure. Keep her in your thoughts. Naomi, like I told you yesterday, you need to cut this silliness out and get back on your stilletos...backless or not, gurl those gowns are NOT flattering. Let me know if you need my glue gun. Love you, honey.

Halle's been uncharacteristically quiet over the past few weeks and I'm sooo sowwy! She's just been incredibly busy with this, that and the other. Yes, Halle has named her latest boy-toys "This" "That" and "The Other." Kidding, babies. Life is just busy busy, but I wanted to make you all aware of a few upcoming events.

Over the next few days I'll be listing them as the details pour in.

First off is from mah Gurl Holly Luyah. Save the date for December 17th. Zonie's Closet (formerly known as Illusions V) will be hosting a Christmas Drag Show to benefit IYG.

Indy Pride Bag Lady Bus Tour '08

Hola, Poppers! I hope everyone had a great weekend and is having a great Monday!!

Well, Halle and pals survived yet another Bag Lady Bus Tour relatively unscathed. My only complaint is that i still have no feeling in my toes after being in heels most of the night. I wasn't even wearing a high heel so I have much sympathy for those silly queens who decided to go high whore with their footwear. To paraphrase Robin Williams in "Mrs. Doubtfire," I'd like to kill the mysoginistic bastard who invented high heels."

The night went off without a hitch. There were plenty of creative costumes, lots of fairies and faeries and several group costumes including the Women's Bowling League, the Golden Girls and my friends and I who did characters from Alice in Wonderland...Alice, the Queen of Hearts, the Mad Hatter, and yours truly as the White Rabbit.

With the end of the festitivites came the crowning of your new Bag Lady Bus Tour Queen, Donna Rhea. Congratulations, luv...I hope you have a great reign!

Hugs, snaps and a sashay to Nic Hensley and Rob Hoaglin for raising over $2000 and taking home the Blossom Award this year.

Cadillac Barbie announced today that we have a tenative profit of $6796.93 to report!! Thanks and congratulations to everyone who participated this year. Start thinking about your costumes for next year's tour.

I still have a couple of events to get ready for this week. First of all, on Tuesday, Summer, FitnessNerd, Maestro, Mom and I will be judges at this year's Skaree-oke Contest hosted by RockStar Promotions at Metro. I'm told the contest will be limited to 10 contestants and the competition begins at midnight.

On Saturday, The Damien Centre will host the annual Grand Masquerade. This year's them is "Illusions of Moulin Rouge." The festitivies feature performances by the Indy Pride Bag Ladies, Dance Kaleidescope and special guest performer, Flava. Sequoia Pentecost will be your Mistress of Ceremonies and yours truly has the honor of hosting the silent auction fundraiser.

Sunday will most definitely be a day of rest for Halle unless someone throws something else on her calendar.

I'm told it will be a tightly run show, but will be an all out extravaganza!

This will be the 2nd annual Plus event, and in April of 2009, they will be celebrating their 5 year anniversary for Shining Star Miss division. Very exciting times ahead! Chelsea Pearl will be stepping down, she was the emeritus queen.

Halle's Hellacious Halloween Has Hit!!

Gurl, let me tell you what...Halle's a tarred betch!! Good lawd!

Here's her highlights:

Saturday October 18: Met Summer Clearance and Maestro at Olly's for brunch, then Summer and I went shopping for frocks. Saturday night, Summer, FitnessNerd and I went to a lil soiree on the lower east side then headed to Greg's. I was a lil tipsy.

Sunday October 19: Slept off my tipsiness and tried to keep from getting ill. Ate a few crackers and slept most of the day. Sunday night was show time!

Okay, so this was Halle's first foray into the pomp & circumstance and pumps and pleasantries of pageants. Can't say that I enjoyed it that much...backstage and inside, anyway. As usual, I loved the aspects of dressing up and performing, but your gurl just isn't that competitive and midway, I almost withdrew from the competition. Fortunately, Naomi Divine (hola, Mami!) was backstage to hold my hand and calm me down. I'll never forget her soothing words of encouragement: "bitch, I love you...but I will cut you." Those simple words helped me keep it together and rally, tally and sally forth.

There were four contestants: Ladonna, Veronica Storme, Donna Rhea and yours truly. Categories were evening gown/presentation; question & answer; performance; and talent. I'll post the pics, you guess which category was which.

Even though the main event of the night was supposed to be the pageant for Bag Lady Bus Tour Queen, the majority of those in the audience were there for a Bag Lady show...and damn it, they got one. A triple-around-the-world-and-back snap to my bestest sister, and Indiana's Own Blue Light Special: Summer Clearance for what had to be the hilarious highlight of the night when she channeled Sarah Palin and performed "Harper Valley, P.T.A." It was positively inspired and I couldn't be more proud of Summer. YOU...GO...GURL!!! Love ya, mean it, Clairee!

Sunday night's line-up included Cadillac Barbie, Sequoia Pentecost, Aurora Diamonds, Holly Luyah, Summer Clearance, Adessah Reed, Carolina Fox and Amanda Love. I know you visually-oriented ADHD whores just want to see pics, so here they are:

Good morning, Poppers! Halle's been sooo sooo busy and her blog is going unattended. This makes me sad!

Just to give you all a wrap-up from the past couple of weeks here's what I've been doing:

Saturday, October 4th I went to Sluts with Nuts at Metro. I planned on just going to watch and support the show, but wound up running drinks, helping Dannon from Rock Star promotions, clearing tables, emptying ashtrays, zipping up dresses and drag handling after the show. It was very a very entertaining show and along with Bitches with Balls and all of the other activities through the year, Team GMCI (Greg's, Metro, Club Indy & English Ivy's) managed to raise over $58000 for this year's AIDS Walk...GO BABIES!!

Sunday, October 5th I participated in the benefit for Alana. It was a fierce show! Great performers and we had a great time on and off the stage. I'm still waiting to hear how Alana did at Miss Gay America. Anyone?

Tuesday, October 7 I met with Tommy from Step UP to pick up supplies for Safer Sex Kits. You've probably seen these cute lil packets at some of Halle's Haunts. I volunteered to put some packets together...if any of you would like to help, please let me know.

Thursday, October 9, Summer Clearance and I met for a cocktail at Metro. Several of the Bag Ladies were there celebrating a milestone with Donna Rhea...Halle's best to you, Donna. We're looking forward to positive results!

Saturday, October 11, I met Summer at Olly's and we proceeded over to University Park where we met with FitnessNerd and Maestro to set up and man the Indy Pride booth for the AIDS Walk. Since Halle injured herself while attempting a semi-high kick at Alana's benefit (which, by the way Summer declared as "fabulous,"...my failure, that is) , I decided to show my support by offering chair massage to event volunteers and walkers. It was a gorgeous day for the Walk, but I was slightly disappointed by the turn-out. Anyone have any ideas on what happened? Was it the change of days? Historically the AIDS Walk has been held on Sunday...was everyone confused? Halle would love your thoughts and feedback.

Sunday was Halle's day of rest before heading right back into the grind on Monday.

Hopefully that helps to explain my absence and you'll forgive your gurl for not being more consistent. Now let's look forward:

In addition to the pageant, come see performances by some of your favorite Bag Ladies and local performers: Cadillac Barbie, Sequoia Pentecost, Summer Clearance, Holly Luyah, Adessah Reed, Carolina Fox and Amanda Love and in one of her final appearances as your reigning Indy Pride Bag Lady Queen, the Gurl of Glam, Aurora Diamonds.

All About Alana

Greetings, Poppers!!

I hope you're having a great week so far. The temps are dropping, but the gurls I meet keep getting hotter and hotter! I had the pleasure of seeing performances by Miss Chelsea Pearl at Talbott Street this past weekend. Though I'd heard her name and seen her likeness several times, I'd never actually seen her work it. Two words. Class act. Can't wait to see her in Indy again. Kisses, baby.

Wellllll...as the title suggests, this post is allllll about a guilty pleasure of mine, Miss Alana Steele!! Alana is one of the fiercest faux femmes I've had the pleasure of seeing perform, and on Sunday, October 5 I have the privilege and honor of participating in a benefit show for Alana as she prepares to compete in Miss Gay America 2009 as Miss Gay Midwest America 2008.

Beauty, talent and showmanship are her trademarks and O MI GAWD, I love her hurr!! Pixie or minx, blonde, brunette or powdered, the gurl knows how to bang a 'do!

Alana started doing drag in 1998. Dared by some silly someone, she entered Miss Indiana Cosmopolitan. Everyone told her she would be terrible, but much to their chagrin, she not only placed, but was crowned!! *that'll teach them* After winning her first title, she didn't do drag again for almost 8 months. She was told by many that she had potential, but Alana refused to allow drag to become an occupation.

Alana continued to enter pageants just for fun and, of course, continued to pick up titles including Miss Terre Haute and a few other bar titles...but she still refused to do shows. She was advised to do some non-pageant performances to remain a strong competitor so she picked up spots in Louisville, Terre Haute & Nashville. None other than Miss Kendra Monroe *gasp! clutch the pearls!* asked her to be in the rotation at Club Cabaret and Alana realized *yay!* that she enjoyed performing. When Talbott Street opened, Alana was asked to be a cast member of the Ladies of Legends where she has developed as an entertainer and as a person. Alana states that her experiences at Talbott Street have helped to mold her into who she is today. Our Alana has won sooo many pageants that she has earned the title "Queen of Crowns."

Alana loves performing because it gives her something to concentrate on and something new and adventurous to look forward to. In her estimation, the best thing about performing is all of the friends she has made.

On a personal note, Alana says that her number one pet peeve is "adults who can't control their children." When asked about her hobbies, she replies, "all I do is work and drag," but she still finds time to raise her puppy, Heidi Maintenance, aka Lilly.

The title Miss Gay America is an important goal for Alana as she feels she wasn't up to par *according to her standards* the last time she was vying for the title.

Alana has always been a sweetheart to me and I truly look forward to participating in her benefit and supporting her as she goes on to Miss Gay America 2009. Miss Gay America 2009 is being held at the Millenium Hotel, 200 S. 4th Street in St. Louis, MO, October 8 - 12, 2008. Good morning, Poppers!

It's your gurl Halle returning after a few days of much needed rest. After an incredible, action-packed weekend, I've finally started to get back into a regular routine...just in time to roll into the month of October, the Gay High Holiday Season.

Before we get into October, though, I just want to hit some hot highlights from a particularly pressurized pageant, Miss Gay Indiana 2008. Several fab, fierce faux femmes competed in the pageant including Erica King, Camilla Merlot, Macy Kirkland, Lola Palooza, newbie nymph Ginger Ale and my ab fab, ferosh FAVE Holly Luyah.

I'm pleased as purple passion punch to announce that my gurl Holly took first alternate though I reallllly and I mean REALLLLLLY wanted her to win of course. As always, she was poised, professional and pure perfection in my eyes, but alas, I wasn't on the judges panel. Holly, gurl...I'm sooo proud of you! You will always have my love, respect and adoration. Keep it up, gurl. As you and I both know, the best way to represent our community is to represent YOU! You are the best of the best.

As much as I wanted Holly to win, I'm happy to announce your new Miss Gay Indiana is Ginger Ale. I've known Ginger since she was just only little...I think we met when she was 19 or so? Ginger had a ton of support backing her and she was teeming with en pointe talent of her own. Ginger, stay true to you and your platform...work it out, gurl!

So while October is a month for fun, frivoity and raucous ribaldry, it's also a time for focus, philanthropy and fundraising. Just a couple of highlights: kicking of October in September, tonight, Greg's will be hosting their annual turnabout show, Bitches With Balls...a benefit for the Greg Power's DEFA Fund. On October 4, the Metro staff will be hosting THEIR turnabout, Sluts With Nuts. Be sure to get out and support both establishments. They're on the same team and always do a pheNOM job of raising money for DEFA and the Indiana AIDS Walk.

Buenos tardes, Poppers!!!

O MI GAWD...if you missed A Night on the Bayou, you missed a par-tay!! More importantly, though, you missed an opportunity to be a part of a hugely successful fundraiser!

With the exception of a little bit of rain and a whole lot of lightning threatening the festivities, everything went off without a hitch. The best part of the day came during set-up: I received a phone call from a friend (who wishes to remain anonymous) to advise me that their organization was going to match dollar for dollar up to $1000 everything that we raised. I'll share with you at the end how much we raised, but it was sooo exciting to make that announcement during the show!

I had sooo much help to pull things off and I'm going to give shout outs to everyone right now:

Kevin & Neil ~ it was sooo generous of you to allow your home to be used for the fish fry. I truly appreciate your hospitality. You guys have an original community center right there in your backyard. Thank you for everything you do.

It was so awesome of you to order all the food, cutlery and various notions as well as loaning out your fryers, food lockers and chafing dishes. After expenses and with the $1000 match, Halle Pino and Friends Present: A Night on the Bayou raised $4400 to ensure continued dialogue for Indy's GLBT Community Center. It's absolutely amazing what a few people can do to make a difference. I'm tha-RILLED to have been a part of this event and look forward to what we can do in the future!

54 hours and counting

Good morning, Poppers!!

I should of course start off by offering you an apology. It's been a hot Halle minute since my last post and I'm sorry; but mi GAWD, I've been busy!

As you all know, A Night on the Bayou is THIS SATURDAY, like day after tomorrow! Let me run down the list of emotions, feelings and physical maladies I'm experiencing this week: fear, excitement, nausea, ADD, bloating, gratitude, terror, love, thankfulness, OCD, ADD, cramps, humility, apprehension and magenta.

Babies, I'm sure with the help of all the people I have behind-the-scenes, in the wings and center stage that this event is going to be a success, but I'm human and in my human-ness, I worry, stress and panic. Keep your fingers crossed that everything goes off without too many hitches. I expect some bumps along the way, but Halle's a bit of a control freak sometimes (not very often, but sometimes) and has high expectations of herself and those around her. More than anything, I want to keep in mind that this IS a fundraiser and at this point ANYthing we bring in over expenses will be a good thing. A VERY good thing.

Let me fill you in on why I'm just a skosh bit nervous...my goal for attendees (keep in mind, it's just a personal goal) is 250. So far, we have sold maybe 30 tickets. I shudder to think that no one's going to show up, but I also shudder when I think that a boatload of people are just going to show up at The Trump's on Saturday. It's been tough to estimate how much food to prepare since so many people have been non-committal, but we'll rally gaily forward with the purest of heart and intention and trust things will work out.

Habaneros, I hope that you can make it on Saturday. As a reminder, A Night on the Bayou is taking place Saturday, September 20, 2008 from 5:30 to 9:30. The address is 3544 North Central Avenue, Indianapolis IN 46205. Tickets are $15 for all you care to eat fried catfish and chicken strips, jambalaya, red beans & rice and cole slaw. You'll also get to sample FitnessNerd's balls (not as scandalous as it sounds, they're just liquor soaked cookie balls...gutter, your minds...out of!!). Greetings, Poppers!!

OMG where to begin?!? First of all. Hi, babies! Forgive me for the lack of updates as of late, but OMG, it's been a busy time in the life of Halle! I was in heels two weekends in a row, battling a head cold, working, banging out details for the fish-fry, buying/designing/commissioning new dresses and wigs and etc etc etc. Whew!

So I met with the folks at Hoaglin's this morning to get some food deets worked out and they were just delish to work with...true blessings. If you have the chance, no...make the chance to get down to Hoaglin's on Mass Ave. I love their menu, they have a cute staff and they're just great people. *kisses Rob & Nic!!*

Halle's handlers (FitnessNerd, Summer & Mom) have been keeping the internet busy this morning exchanging emails. Cooking, cleaning, planning, designing, logistics...makes my head spin, but I have a great team. Actually, I'm part of a great team. I don't ever want it to sound like I'm over or leading them. No...we work together. :-) And we're quite the formidable team!

So far, ticket sales have been slow which concerns me somewhat, but everyone seems to think that folks are just going to show up. I hope they/you do!!

Before I share some pics with you from the past couple of weeks, I need to send special shouts out to Asia LaBouche, Alana Steele, Vicki St. James and Annastacia Demoore. They've all made it possible to advertise the event and they're getting the word out. Thank you sooo much, ladies. Halle has much love for and appreciation of you!!

I had the pleasure of meeting Macy Kirkland a couple of weeks ago. Macy, hon...where's that bio and pic you promised me, hmmmm? I also met Rose Petal this past weekend through none other than my baby gurl, Holly Luyah!! Rose seemed very sweet and Holly was...well, Holly was Holly...perfection in my eyes. *sigh* Hey, gurl!! Saturday night while Summer and I were out for a twirl, I also ran into Stella Couture. We're doing a make-up class this week...too excited.

I need to send a get well message out to my baby, Bauer. He had some silicone inserted into his body this week and it had nothing to do with tits, lips or hips. Who knew that they made silicone TOES?!? Modern medicine!! It's the shiz! Get well soon, hon...and enjoy your "recuperation." Maybe you should get some sun while you're off on medical leave. Vitamin D is good for you!!

We'll be doing a bar crawl tonight between 9:30 & ?? The tentative schedule has us at Downtown Olly's from 10:00-10:20; Metro from 10:35-10:55; Talbott Street from 11:00-11:45 and Greg's from 11:55 - ?? As a reminder, tickets are $15 and we'll have them on hand tonight. If you see me out, please come up and say hey!!

Meet my fascination...

Good MORNING, habaneros!! I am for some reason all bright-tailed and bushy-eyed this a.m. and just ready to face the day! I woke up with a sense of purpose this morning and just bounded out of bed! Part of that is because I've been eating aLOT of fiber and I REALLLLLY had to poo, but let's keep that between us.

So I was out and about last night papering the town with fliers about the fishfry. Prepare yourselves, kids...I will be talking about this lil soiree' aLOT for the next few weeks, but I'll do my best to balance it out with some tiny, tasty tidbits to tease and tantalize. Anyhoo...I hit up Cosmos, Metro, Ivy's, Olly's and Varsity last night and tacked up and passed out fliers to any immovable surface and to anyone who'd take them. Just a heads up...Halle and Handlers will be out and about Friday night passing out palm cards and quite possibly selling tickets and Bag Ladies Calendars. We're doing a mini-bar-crawl from 9:30ish til my feet hurt. The plan is to hit Cosmos, Olly's, Ivy's, Metro, Talbott Street and ending up at Greg's. I hope you get to see me!!

Everyone knows that I just aDORE and am fascinated by Holly Luyah (love ya, gurl!!) on the local level {you know, someone I can actually hang out with and touch and get advice from and see on a regular basis}, but here's my national fascination...meet Jackie Beat!

If you've noticed, I have a link to her official website to the right...that's been there since I started this site so if you haven't checked out this hot-ass chica...shame on yo ass!! I just love everything about this gurl! Her glamour, her paint, her overall look, her humour. I could gush for hours! I just get all giggly and tingly when I see articles about her or hear her latest parody. Baby, baby...where did my week go?

Buenos dias, Poppers!! Are my babies as busy as I am? Isn't it just amazing how one thing leads to another and suddenly a week has passed?

Here are just a few of things your gurl has been up to:

Monday night I ran by Cosmos to find Portia Lynn Van Buren and asked her to perform at A Night on the Bayou. Gurl does some rockin' blues numbers and I'd be remiss to not request her participation...and...she agreed to perform! Yay me!!

Tuesday night found the Mean Gurls at Metro. It had been a week or so since we'd seen Mom and after her family trip to VA (that's Virginia, not the hospital), she needed some time with her homos. FitnessNerd and I wound up at Greg's (shocking) where we ran into Holly Luyah (HEY, GURL!!) and Audrey Heartburn. Sequoia Pentecost joined us later in the night and we pretty much just boozed it up (shocking).

Wednesday night I actually stayed home and watched my two most favoritest shows in the whole wide universe: Project Runway and Shear Genius (more on that to follow).

Thursday night was the monthly Indy Pride Membership Mixer at Agio. Halle is now an official member of Indy Pride! Yay them!! Two snaps and a hair flip to Agio...they provide the yummiest appetizers at the Mixers. I had the privilege of announcing A Night on the Bayou to everyone in attendance. After we left Agio, we sashayed on down to Metro to continue our fellowship (read "drinking"). Yoplait from RockStar Promotions has been selling Bag Ladies Calendars for us. In the past month he has sold 40 calendars at his shows and has actually subsidized the price. The calendars are $10, but he's been selling them for $8 and making up the difference out of pocket. I just love Love LOVE that boy!!

Friday night my roommate and his cuddly buddly had a mojito party at our place. Lots n'lots of rum was consumed.

Saturday night was a night of rest. Lawd, your gurl was ti-red!!

Well, that's my wrap up for the week. I know it's not a terribly exciting post, but I just don't have the time to be too terribly creative right now. I pa-ROMISE to have a fun post or two next week. Stay tuned, habaneros!

Helloooo, Poppers!

I know it's been a minute since I posted, but blame the folks in charge of all things IT, not your gurl Halle.

Now that we have that lil issue resolved, I'm back...for the moment.

I've got some exciting news to share with everyone! I can finally officially tell you about the fundraiser I have coming up! Mark your calendars for Saturday September 20, 2008 for Halle Pino & Friends Present: A Night on the Bayou!! This is a benefit to allow for continued dialogue for the GLBT community center being considered for Indianapolis.

The event is scheduled from 5:30 - 9:30. Tickets for dinner are $15 with a cash bar offering $2 cocktails and beer. Dinner includes fried catfish & chicken strips; hushpuppies; Halle's hot n'hoppin homestyle jambalaya; red beans n'rice; wasabi cole slaw; tossed salad and Nick's "lick-er"-laced cookie balls for dessert...not to mention a heap of Hurricane Jell-o shots in honor of Andrew, Hugo, Katrina & Rita. Proceeds from ticket & bar sales and performer tips will all go towards the community center.

I'm excited about the menu, but I'm even MORE excited about the cast of performers we have lined up for you: Cadillac Barbie, Summer Clearance, Aurora Diamond, Holly Luyah, Stella Couture and yours truly are all confirmed and I'm still in negotiations with a few other local drag and Bag Lady legends, so keep your fingers crossed for me.

My bestest IT geek-pal FitnessNerd outfitted Halle's Happenings with a lil thing called analytics. I admit that I'm technologically challenged when it comes to most things technological, but I think analytics is a pretty nifty thingy-doodle.

What analytics does (do?) is allows Halle to see where all the visitors to Halle's blog are from. So, I have to wonder...what the heck's going on down in Flower Mound, TX?

it's been almost two weeks since my last post. I'm sooo sowwy. :-( I've just been extremely busy with work. So busy in fact, that I won't have a day off until Friday when I leave for Chi with FitnessNerd, Blanche and Maestro. Friday will NOT get here quick enough.

Before I get too deep into drag droppings, let me set the record str8 on one thing:

Halle Pino is NOT responsible for the recent outbreaks of salmonella reported by the CDC!! You can eat me with absolutely noooo fear. The only thing about me that's contagious is my attitude, poppers!! ;-)

On to sick & sweet sightings. I've had several conversations with some local performers and want to take a few minutes to let you know of what's coming down that feather and fur-lined pike that is drag in Indy.

Let me back up for a minute though...if you read this blog with any regularity, you know I just aDORE Holly Luyah. Sunday, July 27th, Holly worked it OUT at Talbott Street. O Mi GAWD, I was moved Moved MOVED by every performance! I got to spend some time with Holly after the show and gurl admitted she was in the zone. Bette to Babs to Liza? Seriously...three wig changes? Three costume changes? Channelling three Divas? In one number? Holly baby I was either drunk n'dreaming or...YOU KILT IT!! love Love LOVE you!!

I had the pleasure of dining with Naomi Divine and Stella Couture earlier in the week at Scotty's Brew Pub...we had the opportunity to dish & discuss drag and drool over the nasty, naughty northside boys. I think I may have to eat at Scotty's more often. MeOWR!

Stella and I met up with Miss Encompass 2008 Annastacia Demoore recently and she had some tres titillating tidbits to tantalize! If you haven't heard yet, Illusions V(I) has new owners!! According to Annastacia, they're in the process of remodeling (smoke-eaters and ice cold A/C perhaps?) and renaming the bar and are asking for your input. If you have a suggestion for a new name, stop by and drop it in the box they have set up. The remodel is ongoing and they'll maintain their regular hours during the facelift. I'm excited to see the new look, how about you?!?

They still have the familiar faces of Angela Stone, Christina Stone and Aurora Michaels on cast with Gina Thomas and Annastacia herself rounding out the bevy of buxom babes. Get down to 1446 East Washington Street right here in Indy (46201) to check out these ladies and watch as the remodel progresses. I've not had the pleasure of featuring Annastacia before, so here's a pic of the luscious lady:

I've shared the stage with her once before and have nothing but respect for this dancing Diva. In addition to being on cast at Illusions, you can catch Annastacia (honey, I'm just gonna call you Anni on here...my nails keep getting hung up in the keyboard) at Talbott Street on August 14 for a benefit for Miss Gay Indianapolis 2008 Erica King as she prepares to compete at Miss Gay Indiana.

Aurora was sportin some sweet ice on her left ring finger courtesy of Steve...that man is destined for sainthood. St. Stephen Aurorae Boreallis. Auspcium mellioris awai...amen. Aurora & Steve have a gorgeous home. (Loved your inner sanctuary, habanero! I'd LOVE to see what "timeless fabric" looks like.) Hoaglin's did a fierce job of catering and it was just a loverly afternoon/evening. *kiss kiss* to the happy couple!

Last but not least, a special shout out to my bestest drag gurlfriend. We've grown up together and I just love her...Happy Birthday, Summer Clearance!!! You know I love you more'n my luggage.

Hola, Poppers!

Yesterday was a HORRIBLE day for your gurl Halle. I was on my way into work yesterday morning when I, how do I put this delicately, blew chunks all over my frock and my car. It was sooo not pretty.

I called my boss and explained the sitch to him then drove home where I spent the next 6 hours alternately laying down and running back and forth to hug the loo. With no one to hold my hair, I was a sniveling, vomiting, wretching mass of a mess begging for some intruder to break in and put me out of my misery. Around 3:30, I was finally able to keep down some consomme' and flat Sprite the roomie had in the fridge. It was truly a wonderful way to spend the day. Thank Cher I'm feeling sooo much better today.

I'll be heading downtown for the Pride mixer at Agio this evening. If you haven't been to one, the Indy Pride mixer is a great way to meet some fanTAStic people. They can help you get plugged in to the community and attendance also provides an opportunity for networking. I've only been to a couple of the mixers, but Agio consistently provides a scrumptions selection of apps to enjoy with beer, wine and cocktails. The mixer will be from 6:00 - 8:ish at Agio. Stop by to eat, meet & greet!

I don't have alot planned for this weekend other than work. I'm working at an ice cream social tomorrow and have work-related pool parties on Saturday & Sunday; rough way to make a living, huh? I suppose it beats being stuck in an office or store all day. I'll be going with friends to a late night showing of "The Dark Night" on Saturday. In preparation, I re-watched "Batman Begins" Tuesday.

Halle doesn't watch much TV, but I've become pretty hooked on Shear Genius on Bravo and I was excited to see Project Runway kick off its new season last night. I'll be posting occasionally on these shows. If you haven't seen either of them, check them out! There's tons of drama! Anytime you have shows about fashion designers or hairstylists, you can be sure there will be plenty of homos and catty gals. Fights, tears, breakdowns...it's WONderful! Oh, and the talents of the contestants provide much in the way of inspiration for fashion forward 'mos and drag queens and the girls and gurls who love them!

I had a fun lil evening with Holly Luyah and Stella Couture on Monday. Great to see you gals! ;-)

I was supposed to go to a party Saturday night, but I was sooo wiped out that I just went home and crashed out on the couch. I slept until around noon:30 Sunday and got myself up and ready to head to the Trump's to hang out by the pool.

While yours truly didn't get involved with any of the rumours circulating around the pool, I did hear quite a few doozies. It's always interesting to me to hear stories about other people...I find even more interesting the reasons those stories are shared. If you'd like to hear about them...

O Mi GAWD!! I haven't been hungover like that in aaages! Who knew that 5 long islands and a rum & diet would knock me on my flabby butt?

It was a fun night. I went to Olly's to meet Cadillac Barbie to give her some hurr for centerpieces for Friday. Met up with FitnessNerd and in short order started drinking with the Prez and other members of the Indy Pride Board. Apologies to any and all I may have groped and/or offended.

I know I won't have time to post tomorrow due to the Second Coming of Christ (aka the launch of the 3G iPhone) so here are just a few tidbits:

Back in Indy

Hellooooooo, Poppers!! O MI GAWD, I'm glad to be home!! As much as I loved being with my friends in Las Vegas, I just don't think it's the city for me. Outside of the occasional layover when I was a flight attendant, I hadn't spent any significant time in LV. IF I go back again, it will definitely be in the off-season and will only be for 3, 4 days max.

There's sooo much to do, sooo much to see, sooo much to avoid and sooo much to step over that it's a skosh overwhelming for someone like Halle. After spending a long weekend with family followed almost immediately by not quite 6 days with friends, I think Halle needs some alone time; no offense to either group.

I did have a good time and it was nice to get away from Indy for a minute, but as Dorothy says, "there's no place like home." Those of us who live in Indy are sooo blessed to have what we do. Indy's a beautiful, clean city and people (for the most part) are considerate.

I spent most of the day yesterday catching up on sleep (slept until 1:ish yesterday afternoon) then got up long enough to pay some bills, run some errands, grab a quick cocktail, get my hurr did and do laundry. Gracie, the puss I share with the roommate was muy excited to see me home and she spent as much time as possible on my lap and in my bed. I love that gurl on Prozac!!
Cadillac Barbie sent out an email this afternoon asking for some jacked up hurr for Friday's movie screening of "Hairspray" at the Trumps so I'll be getting together with Naomi this evening to bump, jack, burn and bang some wigs for centerpieces.

Hola Poppers! I hope everyone's doing well all around the world. I'd like to send a special shout to those of you who are reading Halle's Happenings in New Zealand, India and Australia. Thank you so much for checking in with your gurl!

As I mentioned earlier in the week, Halle is with her favoritest people, FitnessNerd, Blanche, Maestro and (Indy)Mom in the Sin City, LAS VEGAS!! So far everything's gone off without a hitch and we're having a pretty good time.

We arrived Wednesday and just sort of wandered around the Strip taking in the sights and doing a little bit of gambling before having dinner at Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville. We turned in relatively early to prepare for our big Gay Adventure on Thursday. We got up Thursday morning and headed to a wonderful breakfast buffet at Paris before leaving for more sightseeing. Can I tell you that I just love Love LOVE sausage and bacon? I just aDORE salted breakfast meats. We hit all the big historic hotels along the Strip including The Flamingo, Caesar's and MGM Grand. Now Halle appreciates history and all that rot, but I was ready to do some more gambling. I hit several slot machines, but my absolute FAVorite was one called Tabasco. It's hot Hot HOT because the items on the machine are all sorts of peppers, Poppers! It's a machine just made for Halle! Habaneros, Jalapenos...all hot & spicy!

Thursday afternoon, Blanche, Maestro (Indy)Mom and I decided to ride the Manhattan Express rollercoaster at New York New York. It was fun, not horribly scary or jarring and we got some fun pics on it.

After we left New York2, it was time to head to Paris to pick up our Gay Days welcome packs. It's composed of a cute little red bag that says Paris Las Vegas "gay days & nights las vegas," and is filled with all kinds of information for the weekend. We also picked up our official Gay Days dog tags which allow free entry to Krave tonight and reduced cover charges at some of the other gay haunts in LV.

We went to the kickoff party at Risque in Paris last night. It was $25 to get in with all proceeds going to local HIV/AIDS related charities. It was supposed to allow free cocktails from 10:00 - 12:00 at Risque...I won't say much about the party other than to say it could use some tweaking. Bottom line, however the funds raised were going to a good cause so that's all that should matter.

Last night, your Halle also had the privilege of meeting Perez Hilton. He was gracious when asked to pose for fotos with Blanche and I...I'll give him props: Perez has lost some serious pounds and has a hot Hot HOT boyfriend. Or maybe he was just a "friend" for the evening. Regardless, it was nice to meet him as he's somewhat a personal idol. I think I'm a little nicer than he is, but I appreciate how gregarious he is in his "reporting" on his blog. I'll post pics later.

Tonight we're headed to The Price is Right with some str8 friends from Indy and then heading to Krave for a Gay Days & Nights party. We just got in from the pool and I'm gonna take a little nap before we start getting ready for the evening. Tonight is supposed to be our 24 hours of madness, mayhem, fun and frivolity. Gurl's getting old though, so I don't know if I'll make it through. I'll let you know later. ;-)

Before I take off, I need to report that Sequoia came through her surgery and is doing well. Cadillac Barbie gave me an update last evening. Keep it up, Sequoia! Love ya, doll.

Holly, I see your comments, babe...thanks. ;-) I visited a speciality shop on Wednesday and I'm bringing something special back for you.

Viva Las Vegas!!!

O MI GAWD, Poppers! In 45 minutes Halle gets to leave work until 10:00 a.m. on 7/8/7. I'm sooo jazzed.

Tonight I need to finish packing some essentials, but I'm done for the most part. We're sashaying our way to Greg's for Big Bad Butch Boy Bingo around 8:ish. If you haven't heard, Greg's/Our Place has B5 every Tuesday night from 8:00 - 10:00. It's hosted by Ryan Nix from Step-Up and it's generally a good time. You can win cash and prizes and the coverall pot is nothing to sneeze at most nights. Cards are $1 each or 6 for $5 and there are ALWAYS great drink specials. Sequoia Pentecost will also be there tonight selling Bag Ladies Calendars!! The calendars are still only $10 so get yours before they're all gone!

After we leave Greg's, we're heading to the Metro for cocktails and karaoke. If you don't have anything going on tonight, bring your hott little Popper tushies out for some fun and frivolity as the Mean Girls prepare to take over Vegas!

The countdown is on!!

Hola, Poppers! I hope you've all had an awesome day! It's been a productive one at work for Halle. I'm doing all I can to not completely check out, but the bottom line is this...in 39 hours your gurl Halle will be bookin' her flabby butt to Las Vegas!! I'm so excited I just can't stand it!

The breastest part is that I'll be travelling with some of my favorite people in the world, FitnessNerd, Blanche, Maestro and (Indy) Mom! We fly out at 8:15 Wednesday morning and arrive in Sin City at 9:25. On the schedule after getting off the plane are cocktails, a little bit of gambling and an afternoon at the spa for a facial and massage. O MI GAWD!! All kinds of fun and frivolity are planned, but I just prefer to go where the day takes me.

As I mentioned last week, we'll be updating our blogs while we're out there so stay tuned!

I just wanna put a little idea in my Poppers heads...Halle and Helpers are in the process of planning a lil fundraiser to take place in September. If you haven't heard, plans are being laid for a GLBT community resource center in our lil town of Indy. When I heard about it, the first thing I wanted to do was get on board and do some fundraising for it. Mark your calendars now for September 20, 2008. Yours truly will be hosting a lil Louisiana style fish fry with all the fun and trappings of Mardi Gras. You'll hear all about it during the next few months and I'd love to have you there. Keep your fingers crossed that all the sponsors can be lined up and that the event goes off without a hitch.

I'm sure I'll do a quickie post tomorrow before I jet for the day, but wanted to throw these few thoughts out there.

Before I close out for the day, I just want to send a big hug and positive energy to someone very special to me. Sequoia Pentecost will be undergoing major surgery this week and will be under doctor's care for several weeks after. Sequoia, doll...you know Halle adores you and WILL be thinking of you and praying that everything goes well. I'll see you when I get back! Love you, sister!

It IS the Lord's day after all...

Hola, Poppers! I hope everyone's having a great day! Last night I attended the 4th of July Week Kick-off Fundraiser for Step-Up at Cosmos. It was a great time and I'll have some photos to share with all of you tomorrow. Two snaps and hugs & kisses to all the performers: Cadillac Barbie, Holly Luyah, Donna Rhea, Portia Lynn Van Buren, Ricki Summers, and Jillian James. I'll let you know exactly how much was raised for Step-Up by tomorrow.

I had a dream last night of my old church. It may surprise some of my Poppers to know that yours truly was, in another time, at another place, involved in the ministry. I grew up in the Church of God ~ a non-denominational church based in Anderson, IN. It has a world-wide membership and boasts well-known Christian entertainers such as Bill & Gloria Gaither and Sandi Patty as its proponents.

In my 20s, I was involved with the Wesleyan Church which has its international hedquarters right here in Indy. As a member of the ministry team for my church, I was responsible for enhancing the religious experience of everyone from the infants & toddlers all the way up to the senior citizens.

As a young, married youth pastor/praise team member/featured soloist/choir member, I lived with the fear that any day my deepest thoughts, feelings and emotions would come roiling to the surface and cause my outing. I remember sobbing and sweating at the altar begging God to take away the feelings, attractions and temptations I felt and faced every day; all of which I was convinced (by others) were wrong and reason for my banishment to hell. After 10 years of faithful service through music, ministry and giving, I finally gave up. My feelings weren't going away and after 8 years of marriage, I came out as a homosexual.

As expected, the news caused a tizzy in my church as well as my eventual "excommunication" via group cold shoulder. Since moving to Indy in 1990, the church had been my life & my family. I was faced with the daunting prospect of starting all over again in what was, in essence, a new world. I had to make new friends, establish new relationships, learn a new language and understand a new culture...at the ripe old age of 31!!

Long story short (perhaps too late), I've finally come into my own in my new world. Detractors will say the gay community in Indy has a reputation for not being the most welcoming group. In its defense I will say however, that if you step out of your corner and extend yourself to actually meet some new people, your efforts WILL pay off. It's worked for me.

The gay world in Indy really isn't all that different from life in a mega-church. You have your teens (IYG); your men's ministries (501); your music ministries (Indy Men's Chorus/Indy Women's Chorus/Pride of Indy Band); and your women's charities group (the Bag Ladies).

A couple of times a week, we all put on our best Sunday (Friday/Saturday) attire, wash behind our ears and get our hurr did (or douche) and prance ourselves down to church (Greg's/Talbott Street/Club Indy) to commune/worship/socialize with others of a like mind in a safe, welcoming place (even if it's a dark corner or a steam room).

Throughout the year we have fundraising events to help out the local charities and care-giving organizations which warms our hearts and reminds us that we are in fact, a community that cares about each other...even if we don't all know each other on a first name basis.

Poppers, as evidenced by the numerous benefits held almost monthly, the gay community in Indy does care about and for its own. There are sooo many opportunities for involvement. There are sooo many ways for you to give back. There are sooo many ways for you to enhance the life experience for someone else, and in turn yourself.

Good mooooorning, Poppers!! After a couple of days out and about, your gurl Halle is back for a minute.

I tell you what, I was off from work yesterday and I sooo needed it! Thanks for your faithfulness in checking my blog for updates, babies. I see it every time you pull up Halle's Happenings and I send out major air kisses to you. Love you, babies. *kiss kiss kiss*

I've actually been working this morning since 6:00. Some co-workers and I handed out 600 breakfast bags to an apartment community's residents to advertise our available services. It was nice to see their smiling faces but I tell you what...it is sooo humidity out there already! My hurr products went and failed me, so my coiffe is as limp as Summer's/Aurora's wrist. Love ya, babies!

Anyhoo...another big work day ahead so I'm keeping things short. Wednesday night I was out for a minute and ran into Erica King and Anastasia Demoore. They both have benefits and pageants coming up, so stay tuned for further information.

I want to send out big hugs, kisses and positive energy to my very first drag momma, Carma Blake. Carma (aka Carl DeLong) is having some serious health issues and needs all of us to keep her in our thoughts and prayers. I'm going to do a profile of Carma very soon, but want all my babies to be mindful of Carma. Carma...you got me started. Love you baby!! *hug kiss hug*

Last but not least Poppers, I want to make you aware of a Bag Lady show coming up. Holly Luyah and Cadillac Barbie both asked me to mention the 4th of July Week Kick-Off Show at Cosmos. The show is scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday June 28th at 9:00 p.m. Cover charge is $5 with all cover charges and tips going to benefit Step-Up. You know how I feel about Step-Up and their services, so I would consider it a personal favor if you would come out and support the cause. Featured performers include: Cadillac Barbie, Holly Luyah, Donna Rhea, Audrey Heartburn and Portia Lynn Van Buren.

The next few days will be a flurry of activity for yours truly as I and the other Mean Gurls prepare for our trip to Vegas. We leave on July 2 and we'll be there until July 6. Good afternoon, Poppers! It appears that we have a little afternoon shower going on today, but all I can say is, "at least it's not snow!" I hope everyone celebrated the summer solstice in some super hot Hot HOT manner last night! Yay SUMMER!!!

When I considered the intent of Halle's Happenings, I hadn't really planned on any sort of advocacy, but I want to talk for just a moment about something I hold near and dear to my heart. Let's talk about your HEALTH!

There are few things in life over which we have any control, but one of them is our health. Now, we can't control our genetics, but we can do things to ensure that we're not endangering ourselves any more than we need to. That said, I want to shine the spotlight on two organizations that exist to make sure the gay community is taking care of itself.

First up is the Damien Center. The Damien Center is located at 26 North Arsenal Indianapolis, IN 46201.

The mission of the Damien Center is to lead the fight to prevent the spread of HIV and to empower persons in Central Indiana affected by HIV/AIDS to move forward each day with dignity. The Damien Center offers vital supportive services to those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS so they may live abundant and productive lives. {They} also promote comprehensive HIV prevention services, including HIV testing, prevention counseling, education and advocacy. {They} believe passionately in the dignity and worth of every person who seeks their services. {They} strive to be a safe and welcoming place so that no barriers separate people from the services they need to prolong and enhance their lives.

The Damien Center offers Housing & Economic Assitance; Food & Nutrition services; and Care Coordination & Counseling. If you or anyone you know is living with or affected with HIV/AIDS, this resource exists for you and them. The next group I want to talk about is Step-Up, Inc. Step Up's physical address is 8580 Cedar Place Drive, Suite 117 Indianapolis, IN 46240.

Step-Up (Services, Training, Education and Prevention), believes in providing education, training and advocacy and technical assistance to promote health and well-being; with a focus on HIV/STD prevention and diversity.

As a sexually-active, responsible adult, I do take advantage of HIV/STD testing facilities provided in Indianapolis. One of the great things about Step-Up, Inc. is that they bring the testing facility to YOU. I know that it can be somewhat embarrassing to go into a doctor's office or a public health clinic for your semi-annual or annual testing. You can't use embarrassment as an excuse for not being tested, Poppers. Step-Up, Inc. has free Free FREE 20-minute oral swab HIV testing and blood-draw Syphillis testing available at Greg's/Our Place, The 501, Club Indy and The Works.

I experienced first-hand the professionalism and personal touch the prevention and outreach coordinators bring to the testing sites about 3 weeks ago. I was tested for HIV and syphillis at Greg's/Our Place around 11:30 p.m. on a Wednesday night. I took advantage of the testing simply because I was there and it was free. Ryan Nix, the prevention coordinator and I have known each other semi-socially for about 2 years now and under the circumstances we were meeting then, he did everything he could to put me at ease and make me feel comfortable. It felt kind of weird at first, but then it just turned into a couple of friends talking about a necessary evil. I appreciate Ryan, Ramon Reyes and everyone else at Step-Up for their efforts. Chances are you've seen them out and about handing out safer sex kits. Take the kits...use the kits.

Poppers, our community is at epidemic-levels for Syphillis. Left unchecked, it can cause blindness, deafness and dementia. Get tested! If necessary...get treated!

Good afternoon, Poppers!! It's a GORgeous day in Indy and I hope everyone's enjoying it so far.

Yours truly will be leaving the office at 3:30 today to attend a work-related ice cream social/pool party so I'm TRES excited to have the opportunity to work outside! Plus, I'm hoping that maybe...just MAYbe there will be some pretty boys and girls I can eye from behind my shades. ;-)

Soooo...am I missing something or was there no local print media coverage of Circle City INPride '08? I've looked on Indy.com for fotos on Party Crashers...nothing.

I did a search on IndyStar.com for "Circle City INPride '08," and my search came back with, "Did you mean Circle City inbred '08?" A) Where's the coverage? B) What the hell is Circle City inbred '08? Have a missed a festival? God knows it would probably be pretty entertaining. So, what's the deal? If anyone has seen any print coverage from the parade or festival, would you let me know? She's back!!

Gooood morrrrning, Poppers! Your gurl Halle is back after spending 5 days in Louisiana, Texas and Oklahoma. Before I dive wig-first into the Happenings, I simply MUST send a special air kiss out to my BFF FitnessNerd for his guest post. FN, thanks so much for keeping the Poppers in the know in my absence. So last Thursday, yours truly rolled out of bed at the super-early hour of 10:00 a.m. to begin the long trek to Louisiana. I was supposed to be on the road at 7:00 a.m., but ummm, Miss Thang had a few adult beverages on Wednesday night which made for a rough morning. Fortunately, before I headed to the Calendar Launch party I had packed everything and laid all my travelling clothes out, so I threw on my clothes and a hat, flung my suitcase and duffel bag in the back of my Jeep and hit the road.

The drive itself was uneventful (after my hangover subsided {Halle LOVES Excedrin}) and with the company of Cher, Madonna, Mary J., Tina, Celine and some of FN's travelling mix CDs I made it to Alexandria, Louisiana at 11:30 p.m. I spent some time catching up with my Mom, my sister and my nephews and we crashed out around 2:00 a.m. Friday morning, we were up at 7:00 a.m. and out the door at 8:00 to meet my Dad at my parents house in Leesville. Mom, Dad and the nephews headed over to Texas and after cooking up two batches of jambalaya, I headed back to my sister's house to pick her up. My sister and I had some pretty decent conversations on the drive and I'm glad I got to catch up with her.

Saturday, I got to spend time with my cousins fishing, playing golf and shooting some hoops. Most of Halle's friends would probably be surprised to find out that I actually do enjoy things like fishing, hunting, racing dirt-bikes, rough-housing and working on cars; hey, I grew up in the south...even though I knew at a VERY early age that I'm gay, it wasn't something you talked about. I did everything I could to fit in. After all of the afternoon events, my Dad and I spent some quality time talking while we fixed barbecue brisket, chicken quarters, crawfish etoufee' and burgers, brats and dogs. I get my cooking skills from Dad, so if I ever cook anything for you, you have him to thank.

Saturday night, we all gathered at one of the cabins and had a sing-a-long and the second generation of the "browns" (which includes me) got to share childhood memories about our cousins, uncles, aunts and grandparents. It was at times hilarious and at others, emotional but it was great to express what everyone meant to us and to realize just how deep our connections run. Halle's closer to her friends than she is to her family, but she loves her fam nevertheless. Sunday we got up for breakfast, said our goodbyes and made our way back to Louisiana. I drove all day yesterday and made it back to Indy at 9:30 last night.

I understand that Circle City INPride '08 was an overall success, so if you had an opportunity to be there, be sure to thank your Indy Pride Board Members and the President, Scott Van Kirk. You can thank Halle for the weather...I sent up some prayers to Cher and she apparently came through. ;-)

Jackie O. has a long (well, not really) history in Indy. She's travelled Indy on the Bag Lady Bus Tour '07, was seen on a recent parade float, was featured in Nuvo and even met Mayor Ballard's wife. We miss Miss MISS her and pray for her safe return. Here's a picture on the last day she was seen:

On the solo drive back to Indy yesterday, I spent a lot of time reflecting on my life to this point. I can honestly say that the last two-ish years have been the happiest of my life and I have FitnessNerd, Blanche, Maestro and (Indy) Mom to thank for that. They're my family and I just adore them.

Bag Lady Calendar Launch

Afternoon, poppers! Since your gurl, Halle, is in some bus with 30 of her family members trying to get back home (is it Mexico or is it Thailand...no one is sure), I, FitnessNerd (keeper of the keys and the person who keeps Halle in "ferosh" dance music), am guest blogging with pictures from the Bag Lady Calendar Launch.

Unforuntately, I drank myself to oblivion last night, so commentary will be light, but I do have pictures of several of the ladies who were gracious enough to sign our calendars. The calendar itself is gorgeous! All props go out to Michael Manning for a great job designing it, and Donna Rhea for organizing the whole thing.

Bag Ladies Blazin Bouffants

Bonjour, sweetpeas! Your gurl Halle is SOOOORE, OMIGAWD!!

So yesterday was Circle City INPride Skate '08 and it was a massively ferosh event! For those of you who didn't make it to last year's skating event, there were about 50 of us there; we more than tripled the attendance this year with final count at 171 people.

I think people deem events a "success" on a variety of levels. One might consider an event a success based on the number of people; someone else might base success on the amount of money raised. Some other person might deem an event a success on how many pats on the back or how many times they hear "thank you." Yours truly calls this year's skating event a success because of the diversity of the crowd. I was tickled pink to see kids from about age 5 or 6 skating around the rink along with adults in their (I'd say) 60's. There were kids from IYG, families with two mommies, families with two daddies, single parent families, lesbians, gay men, str8 peoples and every race, color & creed...I couldn't be more proud of Marmaduke, FitnessNerd & Summer Clearance. I consider myself privileged to have worked with all of them on this event.

Just a couple of highlights: we crowned a new Miss Drag Skate Queen AND The Bag Ladies Blazin Bouffants got their padded tushes smacked by the Naptown Roller Girls, but it was all in fun. I was happy they showed up and participated in the event. Their DJ did a pheNOMenal job of spinnin for us...the music was funky, fun & FIERCE! The session started and ended with the absolute gayest rollerskating song ever..."XANADU," but while we played the original at the beginning of the session, we closed it out with a special version. Local drag queen Cherylynn Douche' performed a live version of the song to close out the party. It was like the opening and closing ceremonies of the gay Olympics. Special thanks to Cherylynn...you did a great job, gurl!

Wet n'Wild Weekend

Hola, Poppers! It's another dreary day in The Circle City, but Halle's still feeling fierce, ferosh and FAB!! I just have a couple of things to tell you about before I'm out for the weekend. First and foremost is Circle City INPride Skate '08.

IMNSHO, this is not just an event to kick off Circle City INPride '08...it's THE event to kick off the festivities!! I could not be more proud of our little committee for the planning we've been doing, and now we're just about 30 hours away from executing. Keep your fingers crossed, babies. FitnessNerd, Summer Clearance, Marmaduke and yours truly were out and about advertising the event last night. We managed to hit Downtown Olly's, English Ivy's, The Varsity, Cosmos, Talbott Street, The Ten and Metro in about two hours. Thanks to FitnessNerd for keeping us on schedule...it was kinda like a mini-Bag Lady Bus Tour. He just needed Cadillac Barbie's bullhorn to make it complete.

Everyone we talked to last night seemed pretty excited about the event. As I've mentioned before, we had about 50 people there last year. I would love Love LOVE to have 150 there this year. Summer is saying 250...Marmaduke thinks 300. I'll let you know how it all plays out. As a reminder, the event is at Skateland { skatelandindy.com } at 3902 North Glen Arm Road (just off of 38th Street and 465) from 6:30 - 8:30. We'll have a few of the Naptown Roller Girls { naptownrollergirls.com } joining the Bag Ladies for a relay race and you, my little Poppers, will have an opportunity to win the title of Drag Skate Queen 2008 if you'd like to enter our drag race. Your gurl Halle is passing this crown, so come on out! I'd love to see you there.

The next event I'd like to tell you about is Miss Bloomington Newcomer (hopefully) being hosted tonight at Uncle Elizabeth's. The status of the pageant is somewhat undecided because of the weather. Apparently, all of the routes into Bloomington are fa-looded! We need those waters to recede, so if anyone has any pull with the big DQ in the sky, puh-leeze start prayin'!

Miss Bloomington Newcomer is special to me because: a) Miss Holly Lujah was last year's winner and your current reigning queen; and b) Miss Naomi Divine is competing. I wish I could be there tonight and I hope that the weather cooperates. I would be all kinds of fahklempt if Holly wound up crowning Naomi. Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed panel of judges, for your consideration, Miss Naomi Divine:

Miss Gay Indianapolis Pageant 2008

Greetings, Poppers! Before we get into everything I have to share, can I ask if anyone else is having hair issues? It's just soooo humidity out there, hunnies; makes Halle's hair frizz right up. Frizzy makes Halle sad.

Seeing a bevy of drop-dead-gorgeous, dancing divas vying for a crown, however makes me oooh so happy and that's just who/what I had the pleasure of seeing last night. Accompanied by Aurora Diamond, Summer Clearance and my favorite non-dress-wearing drag queen, FitnessNerd we proceeded to Talbott Street for the Miss Gay Indianapolis Pageant.

There were 7 fabulous gurls all workin it out for that crown! The contestants (and I'll apologize for any misspelled names in advance) were Camilla Merlot, Sable, Lola Palooza, Stella Couture, Veronica Storme, Aurora Michaels and Erica King. I'll say that everyone did a good job with their platform presentations, but the stand out for me was Erica King. She was very composed and seemed passionate about her platform ~ mentoring GLBT youth; snaps, gurl...snaps!! IMNSHO, Stella Couture once again did a faboo job with talent, but the talent award went to Camilla Merlot.

Second alternate was Lola Palooza; first alternate was Camilla Merlot and, presenting your newly crowned Miss Gay Indianapolis 2008-2009, Miss Erica King:

I do have to give props to one major stand out of the evening. I've watched her career for the past couple of years and last night she was full en pointe. She was composed during her platform presentation; she maintained a sense of serenity during evening gown and really had it all together for her talent performances. *update* Halle heard that after Miss Gay Indianapolis, one of the contestants was NOT very happy that she didn't place in the pageant. She apparently caused quite a ruckus. Ladies, accept your losses graciously and learn from your experiences. No one likes a bitter queen.

In addition to the 7 contestants last night, there were quite a few legends performing during the judging breaks, including one of my favorites of all time, Miss Caress!! I just get goose-bumps when I see that gurl peform. She's such a class act, I just wish she had more bookings in Indy. Gurl, thank you for many, many years of entertainment! *kiss kiss*

I'd like to say thank you to Asia LaBouche and Holly Luyah for their performances as well as for their emceeing duties at the pageant last night. Y'all are just the best of the best! And Holly, thanks for giving Halle's Happenings a shout from the podium...that was sooo sweet and thoughtful (I still need a head shot, sweetie...hook a gurl up at hallepino@yahoo.com!). Bag Ladies 101

Greetings, habaneros! I just realized that some of you may not know the rich heritage of the Indy Pride Bag Ladies so move in close and listen to their story:

"Twenty-seven years ago around Halloween, 70 or so men dressed in drag, boarded three buses, and began a journey to help in the fight against AIDS calling themselves 'The Bag Ladies.' The Bag Ladies got their name from an article out of a New York City newspaper. Coby Palmer, one of the original Bag Ladies, read in the article that the New York 'bag ladies' were fun and campy and had lots of 'hutspah,' similar to what the Indianapolis Bag Ladies are like today. The Bag Ladies are men willing to dress in high heels and wear outrageous costumes who, each year around Halloween, travel from bar to bar soliciting money until the early hours of the morning on what is called The Bag Lady Bus Tour. Originally, at the end of the night the Bag Lady who raised the most money was crowned Bag Ladies Queen for a year. While raising money is still a major factor in crowning the Queen, the organization now hosts a Bag Lady Queen Pageant prior to the annual Bus Tour.

The Bag Ladies could quite possibly be the nation’s first HIV and AIDS fundraising organization. Since the initial bus tour in 1981, more and more men have become part of this on-going and growing tradition. One of the first organizations that benefited from donations by the Bag Ladies was the Buddy House which provided housing for individuals with HIV/AIDS who were having financial difficulties. Even though the Buddy House is no longer around, the Bag Ladies are stronger than ever and the money they raise supports several local organizations. The Damien Center, the Gregory Powers Direct Emergency Financial Assistance (DEFA) Fund, Indiana Youth Group (IYG), Step Up, and the Indiana AIDS Fund all benefit from money raised by the Bag Ladies. In addition to the annual Bus Tour, several of the 'Ladies' and the present and some former 'Queens' raise money through performances put on throughout the year. In the early years, several of the Bag Lady Queens did other fund raising events such as photo signings, cook book sales, cut-a-thon, and helped organize the Garage Party.

The Bag Ladies have been part of several organizations throughout the years: Indiana Cares, AIDS Serve and Indiana Still Cares. In 2005 when Indiana Still Cares disbanded, the Bag Ladies joined with Indy Pride, Inc. where they march on in their high heels and outrageous hair and continue raising money to this day! In the 2007 calendar year, the Pride Bag Ladies raised and donated over $18,000!"

Yours truly has been involved with the Pride Bag Ladies since jumping on the bus tour last October. I can't say enough how much I love this organization and the other "Ladies" involved.

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention our fearless, flawless and fabulous leader, Miss Cadillac Barbie. Cadillac Barbie is a mentor, mother and mensch to all of us involved in the Bag Ladies (Mensch: Yiddish ~ a person with whom you would be happy to befriend and associate with, because you feel genuine in their presence) and I consider myself blessed to have made her acquaintance. She's giving of her time, her talents and her resources and sets an outstanding example to everyone in the community. I just adore her and under her tutelage aspire to be the best damned Bag Lady I can be. *kiss kiss* to Miss Cadillac Barbie.

Calendar Girls!!

Buenos dias, mamis y papis!! Halle has some muy exciting news to share with her Poppers!

If you haven't heard, let me be the first to tell you: the Indy Pride Bag Ladies have been working on a calendar for the past few months. The calendar features several of the Bag Ladies and local legends in various "daily activities," from lunching, to banging hair, to laying on Mass Ave(?) and burpin out the first baby of the new year. It's FABulous campy fun and a tremendous way for YOU to give back to the GLBT Community.

The Bag Ladies 2008-2009 Calendar Launch Party will be at Greg's/Our Place on 6/11/08 from 9:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. The majority of the models in the calendar will be on hand to provide autographs. It's a 15 month calendar that starts October '08 and goes through December '09. The cost of the calendar during Pride Week is $10; after 06/15/08, the cost of the calendar (if there are any left) will be $15.

Greetings, Poppers!! Halle knows she said she was out for the weekend, but she just HAS to post about the FUNtastic night she had.

Halle must preface this post by saying that Indianapolis had the FA-REAKIEST weather roll through last night! Fierce winds, 10K+ lightening strikes and she's not sure but there may have been a tornado or two. Okay, Halle doesn't care to post third person, so she's dropping that boo-shit right now.

So last night I met up with Yoplait (from RockStar Promotions), my gurl Fancy, my lezbolicious girl Mygina and whatshisface...we need to come up with a name for him. I should name him after a cookie. A Girl Scout cookie...Tagalong! Anyhoo, I met up with them at Olly's for a couple of drinks and then we all headed over to Talbott Street for cheap drinks and drag. It had been a few weeks since I'd been to TS for a show and I'd forgotten how much fun it can be on a Friday night. Of course, with the right people in tow, everything's an experiment in fun! I think I'm going to push to have Friday nights begin at Talbott Street at least once or twice a month for here on out.

On to the sightings! Right off the bat, I ran into my gurl Aurora and swapped air kisses. I told her that I'd updated my blog and don't you know the gurl whipped out her IPhone and pulled it right up. We shared a laugh and a tear and then confirmed the fact that she, Summer Clearance and I will be working on Christina Aguilera's "Candy Man" for a future show. Gurl's already working on her costume. She's fierce, ferosh and fabulous.

Gotta give three snaps, a shout and a sashay to the Ladies of Legends at Talbott Street. The Queen of the Catwalk, Vicki St. James seems to be back en pointe: a few weeks ago she took a little spill backstage and was limping for a minute. Glad to see you back in fighting form, Vicki! You better work!

Love, thoughts and prayers are being sent to Asia LaBouche and her partner for the loss of their Nana. Nana was a sweetheart and very supportive of the gay community. The last time I saw her was at Sequoia Pentecost's Gospel Brunch in April. She really seemed to be enjoying herself and that's how I'll remember her. Asia was sweet as always and it was great to see her back on stage. *kiss kiss* Asia!

Rounding out the Ladies of Legends is of course, the FeNOMenal Femme Fatale, Alana Steele! There's not much I can say that hasn't already been said. This gurl ALWAYS brings her best and I'm just a huge fan.

Greetings, Poppers! It's your gurl Halle kicking off the weekend with a quick post. Last night, yours truly took part in one of the final planning meetings for the Circle City INPride '08 Festival. I'm part of the planning committee for Circle City INPride Skate '08. This is going to be a big ol campy, gay skating party...think "Xanadu" meets "Starlight Express" VS The Naptown Roller Girls. Halle and her friends attended the inaugural event last year and had soooo much fun that we elbowed our way to the head of the line to be a part of the planning committee!! My nipples are hard just THINKING about it! World domination is just a hop-skip-and-go-naked shot away!!

Anyhoo...mark your calendars now for 6/8/08...CIRCLE CITY INPRIDE SKATE '08 at Skateland (http://www.skatelandindy.com/) 3902 N. Glen Arm Road. You'll have the chance to meet some of the Naptown Roller Girls (http://www.naptownrollergirls.com/), swap air kisses with some of the Indy Pride Bag Ladies such as Agnes Boudreaux, Aurora Diamond, Ivana Morehead, Summer Clearance and Sydney Shephard AND, habaneros...you get to watch yours truly crown Miss Drag Skate Queen 2008...yes, Halle is passing on her very first crown. Actually, she's keeping her very first crown and getting a new one for the next Drag Skate Queen. She overcame much adversity to win that crown...she's holding on to that piece of nostalgia!

So on May 17, 2008 Halle went to the Miss Gay All Star pageant at Illusions V. There were two contestants, four judges and 16 DQ/TVs in the audience. The pageant was campy fun and Miss Aurora Michaels was crowned Miss Gay All Star 2008. I'm glad to find out that she was alive and well and in a pageant because just a few days before the pageant, Halle saw this:

The poster itself is actually just an innocent "come out and support Aurora," but I'll tell you, when I first saw it hanging on the wall at the Buy N'Bag...I thought Indy was missing a DQ. Doesn't it just scream, "HAVE YOU SEEN ME?" Aurora, doll...Halle loves ya and offers two snaps for your latest title, but seriously, honey...find a new promoter! You scared Halle!

Well, Poppers, Halle's gotta jet for the day, but it wouldn't be a proper post without my latest DQ sighting. Last night at Olly's I saw Indy's own LaDonna. Actually, LaDonna saw Halle and grabbed my arm in one of her talons and yanked me backwards into her jumblies. What can I say about LaDonna? She's consistent. She's faithful. And apparently she's free. Missy told Halle last night that she no longer has court dates or random "drops." Halle's not sure what a "drop" is, but I think it involves urine. LaDonna, burrl...Halle's a fan and has nothing but love (and the occasional dress and maybe a breakfast plate) for you, but do NOT, grab me like that again. I didn't realize it was you at first and Halle's fist almost found your face. *kiss kiss*

Oooh...one more note, Poppers. Halle simply MUST send an individual love-filled, extra moist air kiss to another Aurora, Aurora Diamond. Aurora is your reigning Bag Lady Bus Tour Queen 2007. Apparently she didn't notice she was mentioned in the inaugural post of Halle's Happenings and was feeling a little left out...she's so pretty. She has been showing that she's not just another pretty face. That personality she ordered on E-bay has finally arrived. *kiss kiss* Aurora!

All kidding aside, I adore Miss Diamond and look forward to performing with her again very soon.

Hawaiian Lei'd Edition

Good morning, habaneros! It's your gurl Halle feeling oh so bright-eyed and bushy-tailed on a gorgeous Wednesday! Yours truly is off from work today and looking forward to spending some time sunbathing. I do spend some time in a fake bake, but there is nothing like good ol Sol to put some pep in your step and some rosy in your cheeks. My mamacita asked me once, "Halle...why do joo have to tain? Joo already have such pretty skeen!" I said to her, "Mami, look at it this way...which would your rather eat: a raw pork roast or a cooked one?" It caused her to think just like you. :-)

This is going to be a short post, but I did want to take a moment to introduce you to two DQs I saw out and about last night. I've had the opportunity to share the stage with both of them and I want my Poppers to get to know them.

The first gurl I wanna give a shout out to is Stella Couture. Stella has been performing with the Circle City INPride Bag Ladies and she does a ferosh job. Gurl's a lil dancer and theatric without being over the top. She was a recent contestant in the Miss Hoosier 250 pageant and even though she didn't claim that crown, gurl won the race IMNSHO. I'm of the belief that talent takes all, but alas, I wasn't a judge. You can catch Stella in the Miss Gay Indianapolis pageant at Talbott Street on 6/5/08. Tell her Halle sent you!

The next gurl I'd like to introduce you to is your reigning Miss Gay Indianapolis, Holly Luyah. I've admired this gurl from afar for the past year and I have to say, she is a class act through and through. She's always prepared to give some advice and some support to any newbies and from what I've seen is quite the lil nurturer. I've shared the stage with Holly at two of the last three Bag Lady shows and gurl knows how to work it out! Whether doing some Dixie Chicks or some ghetto-fabulous, ass-shaking, bass-heavy crunk, miss thang always brings her A-game. Holly will be crowning the next Miss Gay Indianapolis on 6/5/08 at Talbott Street. Tell her Halle axed how she durrin'.

So I was out with my gurl Foxxy last night and I inadvertantly invented a new word. You see, Halle had a few adult beverages with some str8s before heading out to meet her gays and was a lil toasty by the time she got to Metro. At some point she was trying to greet someone with the standard, "gurl," but realized she was talking to a str8-acting man who hates that term and tried to save it by saying, "boy," but it was too late and it came out as "Burrl!" Foxxy has decided that "Burrl!" is the new "fetch" and is staging a one-woman campaign to introduce "Burrl!" to all of gaydom. One of the gayelles we ran into last night is all about it and has already started using it. What do you think? Say it a few times and see if you think it'll catch on.

One last tidbit...look for a new addition to Halle's Happenings coming up soon. My gays have decided that I should start an advice column. We'll call it "Holla at Halle." Pearl Necklace Edition

Morning, sweetpeas...it's your gurl, Halle Pino! Welcome to my new blog! I've been considering starting this for awhile and after the past few weekends I've had, I decided it was beyond time to share my world with you.

The purpose of this blog will be to discuss all things drag (female illusion/campy/fundraising/TV) in Indianapolis and the surrounding areas. I'll be mentioning all the sightings of drag queens (DQs) I have as well as fun and funky music, sites, pageants, shows and behind the scenes cat fights. This first posting is really just to introduce myself as well as to send air-kisses out to the DQs I saw over the weekend.

I did drag for the very first time in 2004. A friend and I decided that Halloween was the perfect time to try to wedge our big-ass feets into CFM pumps and strut our way down the streets of Indy. I actually went out dressed in a Catholic school girl's green tartan skirt, white oxford, thigh highs and 5" Mary Jane platforms. When I put it all together, I actually looked like a cross between Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez, so of course everyone just called me Britney Lopez. It was fitting.

The next time I tried performing was in 2006 at a lesbian bar here in Indy called The Ten. It was quite frightening, but I still managed to muddle through my rendition of "Free Your Mind" by En Vogue. The crowd at The Ten on a Sunday night (their open stage) is predominantly African-American bull dykes (my apologies if you dislike the term, but there are very few lipstick lesbians or gayelles that frequent the bar). The costume was ridiculous...the make-up scarily garish...the song choice inadvertently inappropriate...the movements robotic and lame...but it was what it was. I still wound up making more tips than anyone else who performed. My stage name, in recognition of my Drag Mother Carma Blake was Serenity Blake. It didn't last...I don't care to be named after an adult diaper.

The next time I threw on a dress was for the Bag Lady bus tour. I went as a geisha and called myself Vera Wang. Here's a picture of that travesty:

After participating in the bus tour, the next natural step in the progression was performing in the Bag Lady holiday show. It was on my birthday, December 9, 2007 at Talbott Street. This was the night that Halle Pino was born. My name was actually given to me by a former Bus Lady Queen, Sequoia Pentecost. It fits because I'm ethnic (Filipino, Cherokee, German & Dutch) and most people think I'm latina. Most people don't realize that the name is a play on words (Halle Pino = jalapeno); to me it's more a nod to my FiliPINO roots and less an attempt to be the next Chi Chi LaRue, Perez Hilton or Carmen Miranda; but it works. The name rolls right off of your tongue, doesn't it? Halle Pino! I love it...I own it...and I work it!

Well, before I close this inaugural post, I just want to send air-kisses out the DQs I saw out and about over the Memorial Day weekend...June Taylor...Anastassia Demoore...Asia LaBouche...Erica King...Regina Bitch...Aurora Diamond...Queen Blossom...Ricki Summers...and my sister in crime, Summer Clearance.
